Susie Berend Susie grew up in Archer City, a small town in North Texas. Even as a child she loved nature and enjoyed all types of personal expression – decoupage, sewing, drawing, and crafts. Susie took her first acrylic painting class while her four sons were young. Soon she realized her new passion for painting would have to take a back burner to raising her boys. In 1996, she took a watercolor class and then has continued both class work and individual instruction. She joined an Art Club in Texas and participated in numerous craft shows. As a child, Susie’s family spent many vacations in New Mexico. In the spring of 2003, Susie fulfilled a childhood dream and a search for personal growth by moving to Ruidoso. Her love of New Mexico and its natural beauty has been her inspiration. She feels the subject matter for more paintings is endless in this area – the aspens, lilacs, hollyhocks, Hondo Valley….. Susie’s advice to beginning artists is to leave your art supplies out and try to paint a minimum of fifteen minutes a day.
