Gary Henry

Gary Henry is a former schoolteacher and rancher He started sculpting in 1969 and was soon selected to participate in the first Texas State Art and Craft Show held in Kerryville, Texas.  Since that time he has displayed his work in many exhibits in Texas and surrounding states.

In 1978 Gary was chosen by the Texas Legislature as first alternate for Texas State Artist and he had several pieces displayed in the Texas State Capital.  His early work was in direct metal sculpture but now he works almost exclusively in bronze and wood.  In 1986 he was chosen by those of the State Art and Craft Committee as one of the “Top Ten of the Decade” and had his work displayed in a special area of the Texas State Art and Craft show.

Since retirement in Ruidoso, he has renewed his interest in working with wood.  He is a charter member of the Mountaintop Turners.  His main pursuit in this area has been in the creation of vases, bowls, urns, tables and pitchers.
